Please keep the plugin up! I had to go back to WP 2.1 because of the K2 issue since I’m blind and unable to drag and drop using the mouse, the menu item “K2 sidebar modules” is usefull since I can get at the sidebar.

The plugin may find a niche or it may not. Only time will tell. For now, it’s useful for folks — so I anticipate it being used for a little while at least. If Disable WordPress Widgets statistics flatlines for months on end it may spell the demise for the plugin…
Hello! I use a K2-rework (TechnoBlue by JohnTP) and I have tried to use the plugin with this mod, but it doesn’t work! Is it possible that I can change the plugin to work with my theme?

Disable WordPress Widgets should only work with WordPress 2.2 and beyond. Were you using something earlier than 2.2? That would explain why it was not working.
I’ve installed the plugin after the WP 2.2 installation. It seems to be a database-error, in a fresh installation it is not a problem to use your plugin with my theme. No matter why.

Turning on your plugin works BUT breaks my WYSIWYG editor (the one with the tabs for Visual and Code that is built into WordPress). It makes it so you can only see the code….

I think what you are experiencing is a realpath problem and unrelated to using the plugin.

This plugin actually freed up some limited resources on my host, which resulted in errors after installing WordPress 2.2, but this plugin took this nastyness away :)
Maybe another reason to keep it alive!

I have an error when activating the plugin:

How can i solve this and use this plugin, because the widget functionality of WordPress 2.2 is a lot less then the K2 Sidebar modules.

When i deleted another K2 theme then it works, as mentioned in the link. The WordPress Widgets don’t offer the same functionality as the K2 Sidebar Modules.

I just upgraded to 2.2 and get the dreaded “You must specify a valid module name” when trying to add a module. I’m not using K2…just straight SBM…I tried the K2 hack but it didn’t work for me…is there another solution?

I just installed your “disable-wordpress-widgets” plugin, and then every page in my wordpress installation became blank. After disabling it, everything came back to visible again.
I am using K2 v0.9.6 and wordpress 2.2.1, PHP version is 5.2.0.
Is that something to do with bugs in my PHP?

hmm, I am running FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE, with apache 2.2.4_2.
now I upgraded PHP to 5.2.3, with apache module & mysql extension.
mysql version is 5.0.2.7
what I have encountered is that if I activate the “disable wordpress widgets” plugin, then every single page of wordpress will become “blank page”, i.e. totally white. and on the browser title bar, the actual title of each page (e.g. Manage Plugins, Create New Post, Dashboard, etc.) will not be shown, and the url will be shown instead.
I am not sure but I guess it’s because something went wrong in the PHP rendering engine? or apache?
And WebDeveloper plugin on my firefox told me that I am in Quirks Mode when my wordpress turned all blank.

I am having the “You must specify a valid module name” issue with straight SBM.
All of my SBM modules are there, after updating to 2.2.1, however I cannot add any *new* modules without getting the above error.
Anything I can do?

Mark Krynsky and Duo: I’m unable to replicate your exact error using WP 2.2.2, K2 0.9.6 and the Disable WordPress Widgets plugin. I did see the problem with adding SBMs (solution — I used the second fix that’s listed in that post to solve it). I wonder if this issue is related…please try that solution out and report back.

I’m using your plugin with the old Kubrick. I prefer to hand tweak the sidebar, adding my own navigation links back to the blog index and main site index, and removing the validator links and such from Meta. If widgets ever gets turned on somehow it hoses my tweaking and I cant get it back as I had it without turning your plugin on, even after setting it back to Default Sidebar… so I too am very grateful.

Just installed it now in wp 2.2 working fine. Thanx for it. I’m using terrafirma theme and had serious problems with widgets that were undraggable.
Belatedly (and prompted by the release of 2.3), thanks for this little gem of a plugin. Disabling widgets ought to be an option; no widget is ever perfect, and I think it detracts from the individuality of sites.
Your plugin allows me to hand-craft my site the way I want, so long may it work!
